Information

Portugal is a developed country with a very high Human Development Index, the world's 23rd-highest quality-of-life and a strong healthcare system.
It is one of the world's most globalised and peaceful nations: a member of the European Union, the United Nations, a founding member of the Latin Union, the Organisation of Ibero-American States, OECD, NATO, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, the Eurozone and the Schengen Agreement.
In sum, Portugal has wonderful natural resources and other assets to offer, such as a strategic location, easy access to all European commodities, millennial history, culture, a temperate climate, a hospitable host community, low cost of living, quality medical care, a good value for money property market, and Portuguese gastronomy.

Climate

Portugal is mainly characterised by a warm temperate, Mediterranean climate with a distinct wet season in winter.
During the summer months, daytime maximum temperatures reach 25°C (78°F), 11 or 12 hours of sunshine can be expected, and there are as many as 29 dry days per month on average.

During the winter, Portugal experiences a similar temperature pattern to Spanish coastal towns, i.e. average daytime maxima of about 16°C (61°F) with an average 5-6 hours of sunshine per day. A gradual warming process takes place during the spring months, average daytime maximum temperatures reaching up to 22°C (72°F) by May. Daily sunshine hours increase to about 10 on average.
